LEARNING VALUES IN ADULTHOOD
In this article I have used Beck's six basic principles of values learning in adulthood as a framework for examining mission education within one health care institution. Utilizing these principles in this way has some distinct advantages. Beck's principles: provide a useful list of reference points from which to examine the area of educational processes for mission, philosophy and values within health care settings; help to further test the meaning and application of adult education principles, theories and practices as they apply to values education. They also suggest some further areas for exploration and study. These principles have provided a frame of reference to explain the rationale for mission education and adult values education and one mission educator's sensitivity to the issues and concerns of so many interest groups.
